  Research Assistant -
  Under the direction of Professor Jeffrey Naughton, I am working on efficiently supporting "matchmaking" style operations in relational database systems. This and my past work on dbms-centric workflow scheduling was done in the broader context of the CondorDB project. The first three publications below summarize the above two contributions. Additionally, one of my main contributions to the Condor software is Quill, a database mirror of Condor's operational data. Quill has been deployed as a subsystem of Condor since June 2005.

  Intern, AdWords (Ads) Backend Statistics Collection Group
  Designed and implemented mechanisms to parallelize parts of the continuous AdWords log processing system. My efforts resulted in upto 10x scale-up in the data processing capabilities of the architecture.
  
• IBM Extreme Blue - Hippocratic Database Project
  Almaden Research Center

  Technical Intern -
  Accepted into the highly competitive Extreme Blue program, I was a core member of the Hippocratic Database project. I was involved in building a novel database solution for supporting automatic enforcement of privacy policies while respecting user preferences. Our novelty lies in supporting privacy enforcement at the database level in a manner that is transparent to legacy applications. To that extent, SQL queries are tagged and rewritten to comply with the privacy policy and user preferences defined in XML. Our solution shows promising performance results over other known techniques for privacy enforcement.
  
• IBM Extreme Blue - Analytics e-Utility Project

  As part of a 4-member team, I contributed to the development of a reference implementation for an analytic e-Utility broker that abstracts data mining models from business intelligence processing. In an effort to enable analytics (data mining) in an e-sourcing (computing utility) scenario, our architecture enables easier utilization of analytic services such as IBM Intelligent Miner across a broad range of business applications. Our efforts in this 15-week project have resulted in the filing of 4 software patents and serves as a concrete working example of e-business in an on-demand environment.

  Research Assistant -
  As a member of the core query engine group, I assisted in the development of the next version of the Niagara Internet System. I was also involved in studying the relative advantages and disadvantages of storing XML natively and in a relational database.

  Software Engineer Intern -
  As part of NASA's nation-wide EOSDIS project, I developed a large-scale dimensional data warehouse that stores multivariate atmospheric data. The warehouse was designed in the Sybase environment, and data extraction software was designed in C++.

  Research Assistant -
  Development of TELLTALE, a large-scale distributed Information Retrieval system on a Beowulf cluster. Investigated into parallel algorithms for implementing such a system.
• Stanford Linear Accelerator Center

  Research Assistant -
  Developed OccuSensor, a graphical data-acquisition system that collects data from the high-energy electron beam. OccuSensor is developed in LabVIEW for the Windows NT environment.
• Arecibo Space Observatory
  Arecibo, Puerto Rico
  (June 1999 - August 1999)
  Research Assistant -
  Developed PlotFPP, a graphical plotting package for Fabry-Perot interferometer data. PlotFPP is written in Matlab for the Sun/SPARC environment.
  Implemented a low-level software interface to CAMAC hardware. The interface is written in C++ for the Windows 95 enviroment.
