Biography.  I  received my B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering at Bilkent University, Turkey. Then, I was at
UC Berkeley between Fall 1998 and Spring 2004. I earned my M.A. and Ph.D.  in Biostatistics   under
the supervision of Mark J. van  der Laan in May 2000 and  July 2003, respectively. As my Ph.D. work, 
I worked on the estimation of the bivariate survival  function with general right censored data structures,
and developed statistical methods for detecting regulatory motifs (transcription factor binding sites) 
in biological sequences. Between August 2003 and August 2004, I was a postdoctoral fellow in the 
Division of Biostatistics with the Graduate Group in Computational and Genomic Biology  under the
supervision of Mark J. van der Laan and Sandrine Dudoit.  My postdoctoral work  involved developing
statistical  methods and software for ChIP-Chip data.
