From djbennet@facstaff.wisc.edu Wed Feb 18 14:38:15 1998 Date: Wed, 18 Feb 1998 11:14:41 -0600 From: John Bennet To: pope@macc.wisc.edu, yandell@cs.wisc.edu, simo@geology.wisc.edu, pcgorman@facstaff.wisc.edu, jmfarmer@students.wisc.edu Cc: Cleo Kiergaard-Sorenson Subject: Dissertation Guide Before we meet this Friday, I wanted to contact a specific sub-group of the EDS committee to ask you if you would be willing to work together to develop technical guidelines for electronic submission. I feel fairly strongly that this task can most efficiently be handled by a sub-committee who would report back to the whole committee at a later meeting, either in March or April. My feeling here is that we might want to use the current "Dissertation Guide" distributed by the Graduate School as a basis: http://www.wisc.edu/grad/gs/degrees/pguide.html Another useful source might be the Virginia Tech guidelines, available at their main site: http://etd.vt.edu/etd/ Specific information about formatting is given, for example, at: http://etd.vt.edu/etd/submit/format.htm I hope you will be willing to work on this important task for us and feel that this group is probably the best qualified to handle it. If you are unwilling to do so, or can think of others that need to be involved, please let me know. In any event, the formation of this sub-committee (and a parallel one to look at the procedures, based on "The Three D's") will be on Friday's agenda. With many thanks. I look forward to seeing you on Friday, John Bennet, Chair Dept of Classics 908 Van Hise Hall University of Wisconsin-Madison Ph: 608/262-3320 1220 Linden Dr. Fax: 608/262-8570 Madison, WI 53706 EMail: djbennet@facstaff.wisc.edu U.S.A.
